Celebrated African-Canadian artist, Anthony Sherwood, leads a new production of Shakespeare's The Tragedie of Othello, the Moore of Venice presented by Ale House Theatre, tonight, April 17th-May 2nd, 2015. The play, seldom staged in Toronto, will be performed on a Renaissance-inspired stage in the heart of Trinity-Spadina. Sherwood is joined by Shaw Festival actor Patric Masurkevitch, Alumnae Theatre darling Andrea Brown, and up-and-comers Hilary McCormack as Desdemona and Tayves Fiddis as Iago. (more...)

The production, which opened Thursday, is wonderfully staged by director Alexander Galant - who's managed to bring a fresh perspective on the material and put together a production which retains all of which you love, while bringing in enough originality to keep it from being a carbon copy of the original. Up-and-coming Canadian actress Danielle Wade will star in two productions at the Huron Country Playhouse this summer. She'll start by tackling the iconic role of Anne in the theatre's grand-scale production of the beloved musical Anne of Green Gables, which will launch the 2015 Season at the Huron Country Playhouse. Based on stories by Nobel Prize Winner Alice Munro, the world premiere of Stories by Alice Munro: "The Office" and "Dolly" opened a six-week run in San Francisco to critical acclaim and sold out houses on March 7, 2015. Coming to Toronto in mid-April for it's only Canadian stop, "Stories by Alice Munro" will show just five performances over four days before heading off for a month long tour in France. Munro has never before given the rights to her short stories for a full-scale professional theatrical production of this nature in Canada before this. (more...)
