Actors for Good People.

Preparation
Contemporary THEATRE monologue. You may use a monologue from the script. There will not be a reader present.

Other Dates
Rehearsal: 9/2 Open: 9/19 and Close: 10/12
Performances are Wednesday and Thursday night (7:30pm), Friday 8pm, Saturday 2pm and 8pm andSunday matinee (2pm).

Breakdown

Margaret (Margie with a hard G) Walsh: 45-50 can’t catch a break, rough around the edges, wry, working class South Boston, has had a hard life that has taken away most of her attractiveness but it still shines through. She is physically fit from taking care of her adult daughter with disabilities not from going to the gym. She is desperate and determined and will do anything it takes to find a new job so that she can pay her rent. Must have a south Boston accent-

Mike (Mikey) Dillon: 45-50 a working class kid who made good, from South Boston now lives in the upper-class suburb of Chestnut Hill. He is smart, hardworking, ambitious, and attractive. He has worked hard to refine himself although his Southie accent slips out at moments of stress. He has a dangerous edge and a temper. Briefly dated Margaret in high school.

Kate: Late 20's to early 30's – African-American- upper class, intelligent, cultured and refined, from an elite and influential family, in love with her unfaithful husband but is wise to his ways. She loves to host parties and teaches literature at Boston University. Gracious and intelligent but can have a hard edge when challenged.

Jean: 45-50 – Margaret’s best friend from high school. Attractive, loyal, and a tough talking truth teller, a mouthie from Southie, funny, takes no crap and is a good friend to Margie. She works a catering job at a banquet hall. Must have a south Boston accent-

Stevie: 25-29 Manager of a Dollar Store, from South Boston, patient, understanding but has a job to do, trying a good person, likes to play Bingo no matter how nerdy it looks. He is hard working, quiet and sensitive which sometimes makes him the butt of jokes. Must have a south Boston accent-

Dottie – OFFER OUT
Early 60’s - Margaret’s eccentric babysitter and landlady. An opportunist, a little ditzy. Coarser than her friends, she considers herself a realist. Must have a south Boston accent-
