Condos or no, I think the St Lawrence Centre will be the venue to watch in the City's quest to unload the three theatres. The Sony is too large to be used for traditional musical theatre, the Toronto Centre is outside the downtown core. No matter who buys them, not much will change in terms of what's presented there. With the right buyer, the St Lawrence could become a great new venue for Toronto, hopefully around 1500-2000 seats. With the Mirvish monopoly, it's desperately needed. I realize CanStage and many other groups use the St Lawrence centre and can't sustain production in a venue that large - are there any other options for them?
No matter what happens, I hope the buyers are Canadian!
