I'm excited that ROA is coming to T.O. I feel that this will be a hit for the city.

Glad Toronto is getting a sit down, but can't say I'm all that excited about this play. It looks kind of fun though. Is this common practice to offer so many shows outside subscription? I've only been in Toronto 2 years so I don't know.

If its at the R.A.T. and not in the Subscription searies that might be a good thing. Those stairs and seats on the upper balcony are tough on the body. If the Subscription is at the Canon and Princess of Wales, i might be back for a renewal.

It will be one of the 2010/11 subscription series shows.

Tag: Ouzounian ALWAYS leaks the story lol.

Wallybag: No offense, but I don't think the venue is the problem. One can easily get tickets for the same or very similar price on the first balcony which has much better stairs and seating, or if one didn't have the dough (understandable!) for an upgraded subscription, generally getting a ticket for the one show at that venue upgraded would be worth the minimal expense. I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just pointing out there are reasonable alternatives instead of simply not renewing... That said, I hope Dancap has a good season this year...

I'm thrilled about this!
ROA is one of those shows I hemmed and hawed over the last few times I went to NYC, and figured "I'd see it next time", but never got around to it!

I guess with the success in Toronto of We Will Rock You, Mamma Mia et. al., they know there's an audience in Toronto for this sort of thing.

I'm a bit surprised that this is our next big sit-down production, but I'd rather we have them than just be another stop on the tour. A good friend of mine saw RoA on Broadway and said it was "pretty good." It sounds a bit inane, but I'll give it a chance.

Casting should be interesting. Will they follow the Constantine Maroulis ex-Idol route and bring in an ex-Canadian Idol? Billy Klippert, perhaps?

And is it me, or are Mirvish and Dancap stealing each other's "type" of show? Seems like Rock of Ages would be more suited to the Dancap crowd (Jersey Boys, Toxic Avenger) and shows like South Pacific would be suited to the Mirvish crowd (Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music).

Interesting observation Canmark. I didn't think about that.

Aw man, of ALL the great Broadway shows playing, THIS is what Mirvish brings? Groan. I mean, it's WAY better than WWRY or Shrek but that's still not saying much.

But Wallybag? Really? I would MUCH prefer RAT over Canon, even if Canon is more comfortable. Can't stand the Canon.

I must agree with hubee on this one. I think the Canon would be far too large a theatre for something like ROA. It would get lost.

I'd take Canon over ROA anyday, the seats way up are excruciating, though hearing everyone groan when they get to the top and look down is kind of fun.

Overall though to me it looks like the theatre needs a major cosmetic overhall. It's looking very worn out, the seats are very uncomfortable, bare bulbs are hanging from the ceiling... when I saw Boys none of the toilets would flush at intermission...

Since, it was said that a movie of ROA is in development, do you think it could hurt Toronto's sit down production?

Not at all. Firstly, the movie won't be out until 2011 (at the earliest) and also movies tend to encourage more people to see the shows. Look at how the film versions spurred interest in CHICAGO, HAIRSPRAY and MAMMA MIA.

I have a Question. "Is this show part of next years Subscription?" I was at the show they gave out laser lights shaped like bic lighters and also at the end of the show a Rock of Age`s book was included in a bag of goodie`s. I just kept the lazer lighter.

No, it's not part of the 2010/11 subscription season. It's being launched on its own like they did with We Will Rock You.

Dear Ticket-Buyer,

We're writing today to let you know that this Saturday, November 28, marks the long-awaited, official, first day of public ticket sales for our upcoming Toronto production of the new, hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages... but you can get in a day earlier, and with a chance to get your tickets for only $19.87!

There will be a special launch for Rock of Ages tickets this coming Friday, November 27, at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, at 12:30 PM and if you're there - and there in your very best 1980s' togs - you'll have a chance to buy yourself one or two of the 200 tickets we'll have on sale to see the first performance of Rock of Ages, on April 20, 2010 for the unbelievably low price of $19.87 (and that's tax-included, with no service charges).

Come down to the Royal Alex (260 King Street West) on Friday, proudly sporting your mullets, your jelly shoes, your acid-wash jeans, your leg-warmers and your knit shirts with little alligators on them (or even just hiding discretely, under your coat, a Swatch watch, an "I Love Fraggles" button or a Pat Benatar tee shirt). That's all you need do. The box office opens at 12:30 PM!

If you can't make it down to the Alex on Friday, you can still get 20% OFF regular prices for Rock of Ages performances from April 20 through May 16. Just call 416.872.1212 or 1.800.461.3333 or go online at ticketking.com and quote the magic, 20% off promotional code LONNY.

And if you're asking "What's Rock of Ages and why should I want those tickets, even if they will cost me less than a large pizza?"... according to the Associated Press, it's "A nonstop party laden with sexy choreography, energetic performances and an on-stage band that totally rocks the house!"

The show is set in 1987, on Los Angeles' Sunset Strip. A small town girl meets a big city rocker and, in LA's most famous rock club, they fall in love to the greatest songs of the '80s! It's an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits of Journey, Foreigner, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar (the lady on your tee shirt), Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and many more... with songs including Sister Christian, We Built This City, I Wanna Rock, We're Not Gonna Take It, Waiting For a Girl Like You, Wanted Dead or Alive, I Want To Know What Love Is, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Renegade and Don't Stop Believin'!

The New York Post said, "Rock of Ages does for '80s rock what Mamma Mia! did for ABBA!"

"Absurdly enjoyable," raved New York Times critic Charles Isherwood. "About as guilty as pleasure gets! The siren call of those screaming guitars and singalong choruses are impossible to resist."

And Entertainment Weekly gushed that Rock of Ages was "More fun than it has any right to be."

In other words, it's an awesomely good time, a musical joyride about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on... and we want to see you there. Get those tickets this Friday and save, big time!

$19.87 offer valid in-person at the Royal Alexandra Theatre only, on Friday, November 27 only, for the performance of April 20, 2010, only. Limit of two tickets per customer. 20% offer valid for performances from April 20 - May 16, 2010 only. All ticket prices are in Canadian dollars and include applicable taxes and CIF. May not be combined with any other offer. All ticket sales are final; there are no refunds or exchanges. Offer may be withdrawn at any time, without notice.
