Marty Wilson

Marty Wilson has been hanging around community theatres for nearly 20 years. From on
stage, to back stage, to committees and even president. He’s been there, he’s done that,
he’s seen it all. (He’s probably got the tee shirt too!)

An internationally qualified makeup artist – holding an ITEC Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and
Media Makeup – he worked as a Hairdresser and Makeup Artist in salons and on some
pretty impressive movie sets throughout Auckland and Hamilton. An unfortunate fall ended
Marty’s career as a Hairdresser, so he completed a Certificate in Media Design so the he
could design posters and programmes for community theatres around Auckland and
Hamilton. Training has been done and Marty is also now a registered marriage and civil
union celebrant. That’s how much he loves making people happy!

Marty has become well known around South Auckland for his Hair and Makeup skills and for
his work in that area for community theatre. Between that, media design and being
president for a community theatre in Auckland, he hardly has time for his fiancé – talk about
ships passing in the night!

Community theatre is a real passion for Marty and he has seen many theatre shows (both
community and professional!) all over New Zealand and on the West End. From classics to
original works, he loves it all. In his home theatre, Marty has worked hard for the
community, the people and for the love of theatre. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for the
theatre anywhere in the world.

There is something amazing about a group of like minded and talented people coming
together to produce a show in a diverse community that really warms the heart. Marty has
loved being part of such an unbiased and inclusive community for a short 20 years and can’t
wait to see where the next 20 years leads.
