Vicky Croisant

Vicky is living her dream working as a zookeeper, spending her days with penguins, lions, tigers and bears (oh my!). Theatre has always been an interest of hers, but ever since moving to Ohio in 2003 it's become a true passion. Downtown Cleveland – the largest theatre district outside of Manhattan – is a frequent stomping ground. She sees as many touring, local, regional and orchestral productions as she can and is always looking to broaden her theatrical horizons. When not outside at the zoo or inside a theatre, Vicky enjoys photography, bird watching and knitting.

War changes men. Faith changes men. Family changes men. These are a few of the themes central to THE WHIPPING MAN, the Civil War-era drama playing at Cleveland Play House's Second Stage through December 2nd. This is the type of show that sticks with you, the type of show that you'll be thinking about days later. Do yourself a favor and see it before it closes.

November 13, 2012

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is a 'tale as old as time' and while the story and music are wonderful and as good as the audience may remember, the new NETworks touring production - currently playing at PlayhouseSquare - is a far cry from the magic of the original Broadway and touring productions.

A veteran of stage and screen, Pamela Myers has starred in several of Sondheim's works, including INTO THE WOODS, GYPSY, SWEENEY TODD and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. She was also a member of the original Broadway cast of COMPANY, for which she received a Tony nomination. Trained at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Myers also enjoys teaching and has spent the past four summers sharing her knowledge with students in the Cabaret Conference at Yale University.

When all is said and done, Great Lakes Theater should be extremely proud of its first collaboration of PlayhouseSquare as part of the annual Key Bank Broadway Series. The production is on par with the touring shows that stop in Cleveland. Just because SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is considered a regional production shouldn't stop people from going to see it. You'll leave the theatre with a deeper appreciate of the theatre process, more knowledge of the amazing Stephen Sondheim and a song or two stuck in your head.

When you think of vibrators, the Victorian era generally doesn't come to mind. Most people would probably find the sexual revolution of the 1960s a far more appropriate time frame and yet Sarah Ruhl's IN THE NEXT ROOM, or the vibrator play, takes place in 1880s post-Civil War America when vibrators were regularly used as a medical tool.

Since their creation in the 1930s by cartoonist Charles Addams, the Addams Family clan - Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley and Uncle Fester - has managed to infiltrate popular culture. Whether it's singing along to the finger-snapping theme song from the 1960s television show or instant recognition of the macabre characters, most everyone has a connection to the Addamses. That's one reason the touring production of THE ADDAMS FAMILY was so disappointing.
