Theatre Centre's Managing Director Roxanne Duncan Takes On New Role at PuSh Festival

The Theatre Centre today announced that Managing Director, Roxanne Duncan, has accepted a new role with Vancouver's PuSh International Performing Arts Festival. For over three years Duncan has worked closely with Franco Boni, General & Artistic Director to execute the organization's largest and most ambitious project to date - the $6.2 million transformation of an iconic heritage building into a live arts hub and incubator, and a permanent home for the company.

Duncan was instrumental in planning and implementing The Theatre Centre's first ever gala fundraising event, BOUNCE, which raised more than $100,000 toward the company's capital campaign. She has also worked to produce and support new work from resident artists, collaborating with international touring companies, and much more.

"Roxanne has been such an incredible partner and friend in the time we've worked together. More than that, she has helped us raise money for, build, and move into our new home while still presenting and producing countless shows and productions," said Boni. "We are sad to see her go, but wish her all the very best with the PuSh Festival. They are very lucky to have her."

Effective June 2, 2014, Duncan will take on the role of managing director with the PuSh Festival, where she will be responsible for the overall management and operational activities of the society. As a collaborative partner to the festival's Artistic & Executive Director, Duncan will be responsible for steering the organization by identifying and ensuring the achievement of both short- and long-term organizational goals and priorities.

"It's an honour to have been a part of The Theatre Centre at this pivotal moment in its 35-year history. Theatre is the most transitory art form - you can work on a piece for years, but once it's done, it's done. You can't recapture it. I feel very fortunate to be able to leave behind such a tangible, permanent achievement of my work with the company. It's rare in our industry to feel a real sense of completion. There's always so much to juggle that one task rolls into the next, and into the next, and so on," said Duncan. "For me, to open this new facility after years of work with such an incredible team, feels like a real culmination. I couldn't imagine a higher note to leave on."

Duncan has been the Managing Director of The Theatre Centre in Toronto since 2010. She began her career in Edinburgh in 2005 working with Aurora Nova, and Paul Lucas Productions. In 2007 she moved to Toronto where she worked with Volcano Theatre and Peggy Baker Dance Projects. Since then Duncan has worked with Toronto companies including Acting Up Stage, Company Theatre, Dreamwalker Dance, Soulpepper, and Why Not Theatre.
