On Monday May 28th, 2012 the Stratford Shakespeare Festival kicked off their 60th season in grand style reserved especially for these types of special occasions. The streets of this quaint town were lined with men in tuxedos and women in ballgowns (despite the near record setting temperatures), the swans were gracing the Avon River and the red carpet was rolled out for stars, dignitaries and fans alike.
Among those in attendance were The Mayor of Stratford Dan Mathieson, the US ambassador to Canada, Stratford staples Colm Feore, Dan Chameroy, Cynthia Dale, Geraint Wyn Davis, Ben Carlson, Deborah Hay and Jesus Christ Superstar cast members Bruce Dow and Marcus Nance (who both flew in from NYC to celebrate with their Stratford family).
The 60th Season marks the last season for Artistic Director Des McAnuff, who was on hand last night to celebrate. Also in attendance was General Director Antoni Cimolino who will be taking over as Artistic Director next year (and helm this year's Cymbeline). The opening week kicked off with Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, and continues with 42nd Street, Charlie Brown, Cymbeline, Pirates of Penzance and The Matchmaker.
BWW was on hand for all the opening night fun and we are thrilled to bring our reader's photos from the glitzy evening.
