Photo Coverage: Sir Tim Rice at CHESS Opening in Toronto

Chess, the legendary musical by Tim Rice and ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, opened in Toronto on September 28th. Fresh off a sold-out tour of the UK, the show will play The Princess of Wales Theatre until October 30th and then open in London's West End. The Chronicle referred to this production of CHESS as "the ultimate staging of Chess, I could have sat there and watched it all again, and again, and again." Hailed as one of the greatest musical theatre scores of all time, the show even spawned a number one hit for Elaine Page and Barbara Dickson's duet "I Know Him So Well" This new production marks the first time in over 20 years there has been a production of Chess of this magnitude in North America (last one being Broadway in 1988).

The show is a visual feast and a treat for the senses. Gorgeous costumes and impressive choreography serve to highlight the stunning vocals of West End stars Tam Mutu, Rebecca Lock, Shona White, James Fox and the entire cast of the UK touring production. Sir Tim Rice himself even made a surprise guest appearance at curtain call to take a bow with his cast, and BWW was on hand to bring you these gorgeous photos:

Kelly Cameron's love affair with the theatre began when she was just five years old, on an outing to see the Original Canadian Cast of Les Miserables at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. She instantly fell in love, and since then has been lucky enough to be involved in various theatre activities and productions, including a regional production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and a local production of Where the Sidewalk Ends. She has also received training from various teachers throughout Southwestern Ontario in both piano and voice, and competed in vocal competitions for which she received a few awards. Her writing career started almost by accident, when she had the opportunity to become a ghostwriter for up and coming businesses. She continues to do this, writing the content for all sorts of companies who are starting websites and looking to find their voice. Her passion and love for theatre led to her becoming involved with BroadwayWorld where she is thrilled to be writing for the Toronto contingent of the rapidly growing website. When she isn't at the theatre, you can generally find her firmly planted in front of her trusty Blackberry - tweeting, Facebooking or partaking in other such social media activities to ensure that those who want to know are kept apprised of everything that Toronto theatre has to offer.
