Photo Coverage: Hal Prince Visits Toronto to Launch Dancap's 2012 Season

DO-NOT-LIVE-Photo-Coverage-Hal-Prince-visits-Toronto-to-launch-Dancaps-2012-Season-20000101

Toronto got a very special treat on Monday morning, as theatre legend Harold Prince emerged as the surprise guest at Dancap Productions 2012 Season Launch event.  Held at the beautiful Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, a group of lucky media members were on hand to witness the unveiling of the exciting new season, and hear Prince speak about 'Prince of Broadway', the brand new musical Dancap is producing based on his extraordinary life.

Harold Prince revealed additional details about the eagerly anticipated production, stating that it will premiere in Toronto in the summer of 2012 and include additional lyrical contributions from Jason Robert Brown.  Featuring an orchestra of "at least twenty" and a not yet announced cast, Prince will also "star" in the show through various audio and video recordings.

Also on hand at the launch were the boys who comprise the current US touring cast of Million Dollar Quartet, another show announced to be part of Dancap's 2012 line-up. They blew the roof off the Four Seasons with hits such as Blue Suede Shoes and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On. Lauren Palmeri from the touring cast of Beauty and the Beast performed as well, reminding those on hand just how much Toronto loves the classic Disney tale.

The 2012 Dancap season will get a rocking start as the 1st National Tour of American Idiot launches in Toronto December 28th.  Aubrey Dan confirmed that there will be three Canadians featured in that cast - Jake Epstein (who will play slacker Will) and Gabriel Antonacci and Talia Aaron who will be in the ensemble. Following American Idiot at the TCA is In the Heights, Shrek and West Side Story.  The summer season at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts kicks off with Beauty and the Beast in July, followed by Prince of Broadway.  Million Dollar Quartet will play the Toronto Centre for the Arts in July, and A Christmas Story will come to The Sony Centre just in time for Christmas.

BWW was on hand to capture the entire event for its readers, and we are thrilled to bring you photos of the performances and the 'Prince of Broadway' himself:

Kelly Cameron's love affair with the theatre began when she was just five years old, on an outing to see the Original Canadian Cast of Les Miserables at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. She instantly fell in love, and since then has been lucky enough to be involved in various theatre activities and productions, including a regional production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and a local production of Where the Sidewalk Ends. She has also received training from various teachers throughout Southwestern Ontario in both piano and voice, and competed in vocal competitions for which she received a few awards. Her writing career started almost by accident, when she had the opportunity to become a ghostwriter for up and coming businesses. She continues to do this, writing the content for all sorts of companies who are starting websites and looking to find their voice.

Her passion and love for theatre led to her becoming involved with BroadwayWorld where she is thrilled to be writing for the Toronto contingent of the rapidly growing website. When she isn't at the theatre, you can generally find her firmly planted in front of her trusty Blackberry - tweeting, Facebooking or partaking in other such social media activities to ensure that those who want to know are kept apprised of everything that Toronto theatre has to offer. Other interests include movies, art, music, shopping, fashion and martial arts with the occasional foray into the world of finance.
