One Night Only! Stars of Canadian Theatre Come Together for Special Fundraiser 2009/11/13

On Monday November 16th, some of the best and brightest stars of Canadian Musical Theatre are scheduled to come together for a very special evening to celebrate Songs from Jewish Composers. This is a unique event with great performers and proceeds go to the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company.

The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company is Toronto's only professional theatre company established to celebrate and share Jewish culture. Co-Artistic Director Avery Saltzman discussed the event, saying: "Musical theatre has been an integral part of American society since its inception. And it was Jewish composers and lyricists specifically who created and defined America on the musical theatre stage. We have gathered some of the best theatre artists in Canada to celebrate and sing those songs."

The artists scheduled to perform are as follows (list is subject to change): Thom Allison (Outrageous, Elegies: A Song Cycle); Adam Brazier (Women in White, Into The Woods); Michael Burgess (Les Misérables); Brent Carver (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Parade); Juno-Award winning singer/songwriter Melanie Doane; Ted Dykstra (2 Pianos, 4 Hands); Lisa Horner (My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding); Sharron Matthews (Sharron's Party!); Elicia MacKenzie (The Sound of Music); Co-Artistic Director of the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Avery Saltzman (The Pajama Game, Candide); Theresa Tova (Still The Night); Aaron Walpole ("Canadian Idol," Nursery School Musical); Paula Wolfson (Arthouse Cabaret) and cast members from the hit musical Jersey Boys.

The event will be hosted by Colin Mochrie ("Whose Line Is It Anyway?") and Deb McGrath ("Little Mosque on the Prairie") This is shaping up to be a great opportunity to support a wonderful cause and also see many of Canada's biggest stars all under the same roof. Tickets are $100 and $125 and tax receipts will be issued.

Songs & Celebration: An Evening of Songs from Jewish Composers will take place at the Jane Mallett Theatre, St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, 27 Front Street East, Toronto, on Monday, November 16, 7:30pm. Kelly Cameron's love affair with the theatre began when she was just five years old, on an outing to see the Original Canadian Cast of Les Miserables at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. She fell in love instantly, and since then has been lucky enough to be involved in varied theatre activities and productions, including a regional production of A Midsummer Night?s Dream and a local production of Where the Sidewalk Ends. She has also received training from various teachers throughout Southwestern Ontario in both piano and voice, and competed in vocal competitions for which she received a few awards. Her writing career started almost by accident, when she had the opportunity to become a ghostwriter for up and coming businesses. She continues to do this, writing the content for all sorts of companies who want to start websites but don't know what they want to say. Most recently she had the opportunity to write for a Martial Arts Club Directory, and loves the fact that her work allows her to learn about such widely different subjects. Other interests include movies, art, shopping, fashion and she has been known to dabble in martial arts as well.
