Nightwood Theatre Presents Live-Cinematic Production of NO EXIT, 11/11-11/21

"Hell is other people." In Jean-Paul Sartre's existentialist masterpiece, 'No Exit,' three damned souls collide in hell, expecting to be subjected to torture for their mortal sins, only to be left at the mercy of one another. Sartre's philosophical journey into the human psyche will be staged as a 'live movie' in a hybrid film and theatre performance presented by Nightwood Theatre from November 11-21 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. The production is conceived and directed by Kim Collier.
The play, translated for this production from its original French by Paul Bowles, stars Lucia Frangione, Laara Sadiq, Andy Thompson and Jonathon Young. Collier's unique interpretation is already receiving accolades; Toronto's Globe and Mail called it, "Brilliant...The bravest theatrical ride I've been on this year."

Nightwood Theatre produces essential theatre by women, including original Canadian plays and works from the contemporary international repertoire. The theatre company provides a training ground for emerging talent, promote diversity and engage artists in play development and theatre production.
Jean-Paul Sartre was a French existentialist philosopher, playwright, novelist, screenwriter, political activist, biographer, and literary critic. He was one of the leading figures in 20th century French philosophy and Existentialism. Sartre's literary works include 'La Nausee,' 'The Roads to Freedom', 'Les Mouches', 'Situations', 'Search for a Method', amongst countless others. In 1944, Sartre penned 'Huis-Clos' ('No Exit'), perhaps his best-known existentialist work.

Romina first caught the musical theatre bug many moons ago, during her first year of high-school, or to be more specific, at the very first note sung by Colm Wilkinson on the London original cast recording of Les Miserables. The next few years would see countless hours of voice and dance lessons, auditions, and appearances in community theatre, starting with a role in a community production of 'Brigadoon', helmed by legendary Canadian director Alan Lund. Other productions include 'Into the Woods', 'The Music Man', 'The Merchant of Venice' , 'The Wizard of Oz', and the role of Chava in 'Fiddler on the Roof.' Having hung her tap shoes (but continuing to belt along to cast recordings), Romina now focuses her time in the non-proft sector, coordinating volunteering programs, communications and social media strategies for various non-profits as well as arts organizations. Romina is thrilled to live in the Great White North (aka. Toronto) where she's privy to the incomparable community talent, in addition to the major touring productions.
