The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts (RHCPA) proudly welcomes Molly Ringwald tonight, April 10th at 8:00 pm. Best known for her roles in the iconic movies Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, Molly has now become one of jazz's great voices. Making her only Canadian stop, join Molly as she takes the main stage with a full repertoire of jazz standards.

Long before she became famous as "America's sweetheart" in the 1980s, Molly Ringwald was passionate about music, specifically jazz. Her father was a blind jazz musician who shared the love of the genre with his daughter at an early age. She began performing with his group when she was three and recorded her first album at six years old.

"I had quite the musical repertoire," she recalls with a laugh. "It was pretty much traditional jazz but there was some Bessie Smith and Helen Kane, the original Betty Boop." Her grasp of jazz and its history comes from a lifelong study of the form and the great singers who inspired her, including Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Blossom Dearie and Susannah McCorkle. In 2013 she released the album "Except Sometimes" which is comprised of "basically songs that I felt connected to and songs that I felt we played together well as a band. As much as I love traditional jazz, my real interest is more modern, more from the Great American Song Book."

Located in historic downtown, the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts is a 631 seat, state of the art cultural facility which offers a full season of professional entertainment celebrating the many cultures of the community. The Centre is also a home for Richmond Hill's diverse arts community, create a destination in the downtown core, and is a major venue to bring Canadian and international performances to York Region.
