It was just announced today that Miss Saigon will become the second show in Dancap's inaugural Summer Broadway Series line-up at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts (joining South Pacific which was announced earlier this year). Miss Saigon will play a limited engagement in association with Pittsburgh CLO from July 9th to August 1st, 2010.

Both of Dancap's Summer Broadway Series shows are now set in the Pacific, but with very different themes. Miss Saigon is set in 1975 during the final days of the American occupation of Saigon, and is (at its core) an epic love story between an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl. Miss Saigon features hits such as "I Still Believe", "Why God Why?" and "The American Dream".

The musical was created by Alain Boubil and Claude-Michel Schonberg and is their second biggest hit after Les Miserables. It is a modern interpretation of Puccini's Madame Butterfly. The show had a very successful run on Broadway, and still holds its place as the 10th longest running show in Broadway history. The show has had 27 companies in 25 countries and 246 cities, and it has been translated into twelve different languages.

Miss Saigon has a very special history with Toronto, as The Princess of Wales theatre was built specifically to house the production (or more importantly, the helicopter that is seen in the production). It had an extremely successful run in Toronto with a cast that included Kevin Gray and Ma-Anne Dionisio. In fact, the Original Canadian Cast is in the process of mounting a reunion of all those involved in that production. The Toronto production launched in 1993, and Canada has not seen another production of Miss Saigon since that production closed.

Expect this to be a big one, Canadian audiences warmly embraced Miss Saigon the first time around, and it is very exciting to have the production finally returning to the stage in Toronto. At press time there was no world as to whether this would be a Canadian Cast.
