A major attraction we're planning for FIREWORKS 2, our Festival of new works by Alumnae Theatre Company members, is the Playwrights' Intensive. We're delighted to announce that Maja Ardal, renowned playwright and director, will spearhead the workshop series, to run for the duration of the Festival.

Playwrights, do you have a play on the go? Something you're working on? An idea and a few scenes? Stuck in a mess of words - need some brain-clearing exercises? We invite you to come and work with an established playwright and instructor who'll help you move to the next level. Plan to join Maja for this exciting and challenging series. Numbers will be limited, so watch our website for further details.

An Iceland-born Canadian, Maja Ardal was schooled in Scotland. She is a playwright, performer, theatre instructor, the former artistic director of Young People's Theatre, and a core member of Contrary Company. She wrote Midnight Sun, produced by Tarragon Theatre and the National Arts Centre, and published by Playwrights Canada Press. Over her thirty-seven-year career she has directed at the Shaw Festival, the Grand Theatre, and Alberta Theatre Projects among others. For her illustrious career, Maja was the recipient of the 2002 George Luscombe Award for Mentorship in the Theatre. Maja is playwright-in-residence at Nightwood Theatre, and has written The Cure for Everything, a sequel to You Fancy Yourself.

After last year's explosive success, Fireworks is back with two more original, full-length plays developed at Alumnae Theatre: Burying Toni by Catherine Frid and You Have To Earn It by Ramona Baillie and Maria Popoff. A festival of creativity, Fireworks will also feature discussion panels, workshops, and playwright talkbacks.
