Drayton Entertainment has announced that founding and current Artistic Director, Alex Mustakas is a recipient of The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. This new commemorative Medal, created in 2012 for The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, is presented to honour individual Canadians who have made significant contributions to the community and to the proud heritage of Canada.
Mustakas was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal at a special ceremony held on Tuesday, December 18th in Stratford, Ontario as part of the celebrations in Perth-Wellington. The presentation was made by Gary Schellenberger, Member of Parliament for Perth-Wellington.
2012 marks the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the throne as the Queen of Canada. The Diamond Jubilee honours The Queen's reign, her service and her dedication to Canada, and celebrates Canadian achievements of the last 60 years.
The Medal is a rare and prestigious award. To date, there has been only one Diamond Jubilee celebrated in Canada -- that of Queen Victoria in 1897. This anniversary therefore provides a unique opportunity to celebrate our country's traditions, history, symbols, values and institutions, particularly about the role of the Crown in Canada. The Chancellery of Honours, as part of the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General, administers the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal program.
"I am deeply honoured to be recognized with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal," said Alex Mustakas. "I really feel that at the heart of Drayton Entertainment is an enthusiastic commitment to community, so it is deeply meaningful to me."
Award-winning Drayton Entertainment currently operates six theatres in St. Jacobs, Drayton, Grand Bend, Penetanguishene, with a new theatre, Dunfield Theatre Cambridge, set to open in March 2013. Since their inception in 1991, under the tutelage of Alex Mustakas, each theatre has had enormous economic and social impact on the communities in which they are involved, welcoming over 200,000 theatregoers annually.
