To commemorate the 40 year anniversary of the Beatles "Abbey Road" album, Classic Albums Live will be performing the album, note for note - cut for cut, at Toronto's Massey Hall on September 26, 2009.
Classic Albums Live founder and series producer, Craig Martin, sees the show as a historic event. "This will be a show to remember," says Martin. "This is the one album in the Beatles catalogue that people keep returning to hear. From start to finish it's an absolutely perfect record and we're going to treat it with the ultimate respect." Massey Hall approachEd Martin earlier in the year about taking on such a monumental task. "We do over 150 shows a year," says Martin, "but Massey Hall will be the jewel in our crown. The marriage of the venue, the album and the CAL series will ensure that this will be an incredible night for music lovers!"
This album stands the test of time - 40 years later, music fans are still listening to "Abbey Road". Kids are discovering this album and sharing it with their friends. A 17-piece band has been assembled for this show to ensure that every nook and cranny of the album will be perfectly recreated on stage.
Classic Albums Live began in 2003, with a monthly show in Toronto. Taking classic albums from the 60s and 70s, the group earned a stellar reputation by going to great lengths to recreate seminal albums from some of the world's greatest artists. Having performed with orchestras, choirs, marching bands and sitarists, the series draws on a core group of 34 musicians to tackle some of the trickiest and most well respected albums of all time.
Since its beginning the series has grown to become a "destination" show for fans. People travel great lengths to see Classic Albums Live shows. There's a genuine feeling of an event taking place; people are expected to fly in from Britain to come celebrate this important anniversary.
Classic Albums Live has regular stops in Orlando, New York, Newark, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The series also sees an additional 80 dates a year in performing arts centres across Canada.
