Auditions Feb. 15 and 22 - 5:00 to 8:00 by appointment

RSVP by e-mail - CivicLightOpera@aol.com

Performances May 19 to June 4, 2011
Fairview Library Theatre

The classic Broadway music of Cole Porter will soon be wafting through the rafters of the Fairview Library Theatre.  The Civic Light Opera Company will be holding auditions for volunteer singer/actor/dancers for its upcoming production of the musical comedy Anything Goes on Tuesday, Feb. 15 and Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 5:00 to 8:00 (by appointment) at the theatre. Performance dates for this Broadway classic are May 19 to June 4, 2011.

Roles available include:

  • Reno Sweeney, alto, a sexy evangelist turned nightclub singer; 20-35
  • Hope Harcourt, alto or soprano, a beautiful debutante; 20s
  • Evangeline Harcourt, alto or soprano, Hope's widowed mother; 50s +
  • Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, baritone, a wealthy Englishman; musical-comedy British accent
  • Elisha Whitney, baritone, a pompous Wall Street broker; mid-50s +
  • Billy Crocker, tenor, juvenile lead with strong character, Whitney's young assistant; 20-35
  • Moonface Martin, tenor, a fugitive gangster; comedy lead - 40 +
  • Bonnie, alto, a funny, sexy gangster's moll;
  • Ship Captain, baritone;
  • Two comic Chinese religious Missionary converts.
  • In addition, the production calls for a female quartet called "the Angels," a male quartet of sailors, a bartender, a minister, two FBI agents, reporters, photographers, and an ensemble of various sailors, crew, and passengers.

Notes:

  • All roles are open. No performing experience is required, and newcomers are also encouraged to audition.
  • Those auditioning should dress comfortably and wear closed shoes.
  • We request that each auditionee prepare TWO contrasting songs, ideally in the Broadway genre, but not necessarily from Anything Goes.
  • A monologue is helpful, but not mandatory.  We may ask you to do a cold reading and a brief movement audition as well.
  • There will be a final callback audition, as necessary, by invitation.

Director, JOE CASCONE

Choreographer, LESLEY ANSELL

Production Stage Manager, MALCOLM BYRNE

Rehearsals commence April 7 and will be conducted Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 10:30 and Saturday afternoons from 12:00 noon until 5:00pm.  Rehearsals take place at our East York rehearsal facility.  Please do not audition if your personal schedule cannot accommodate this time commitment.

Anything Goes is set mostly aboard the "S.S. American," a luxury liner sailing from New York to London, with a quasi "Love Boat" style plot of door slamming mistaken identities, culminating in boy-gets-girl-in-the-end.

Music and lyrics are by Cole Porter, with original book by Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay, and Russel Crouse. This is the first staging of the original 1934 version in over 60 years, although the plot is very similar to the recent popular revivals and those great Cole Porter songs still include "I Get a Kick Out Of You," "Easy to Love," "You're the Top," and "Blow, Gabriel, Blow."

Please respond by e-mail to set up an audition with us!

We look forward to meeting you soon!
